Well, Lassie had his name in a show title too, and he was replaced repeatedly. I thnk irreplaceable goes beyond a name -- it's the value the name creates.

I concur. That's why his name is first in the show title..

Yes, you are right. He was willing to ask questions and learn from others. He will be hard to replace.

At least Regis didn't try to act like he was an expert on politics or global affairs the way so many actors seem to do.

I had the show on today inadvertently. And I'll tell you this: Kelly without Rege is downright boring.

I agree. He did "walk the walk". I think compared with a lot of other celebrities today, he did respect where he came from, understood and respected his audience and was willing to talk about faults that he had. People liked listening to him talk.

I never watched Regis in any of his incarnations, even when his was my neighbor back in my Los Angeles days.  But I think one of the reasons that he endeared himself to millions was that he was always humble and never forgot his roots or the forces that shaped him.

His love of Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx stands out.  I don't think one has to be Roman Catholic (I'm not) to understand the defining importance of that institution in his life. The fact that he supported the place, both tangibly and through his good words through the many ups and downs that Catholic boys' education has endured in the court of public opinion is very telling to me.

Regis comes from a generation that not only talked the talk but walked the walk, and I respect him very much.

"Twenty-eight years later, Regis has fulfilled my prediction."

Good line, Marvin!  Great story. The moral of the story is, you just never know... and it's hard work and perseverance that always defines a career.

As long as he doesn't come back in the form of Dick Clark it will be ok.
